Ever wondered what quantum theory is? Are you baffled by relativity? Learn about the interpretations of quantum physics and what it means for our conception of reality.
When: Thursdays, 10 weeks
18 January - 28 March
Time: 16:45-18:15
Location: Morley College - North Kensington
In this astronomy course for beginners you will learn how to find your way around the night sky using the constellations. You’ll learn how to use a stargazing app to track the Moon and find stars, planets and even a galaxy.
When: Saturday 3 February
Time: 10:00-15:00
Location: Morley College - North Kensington
This is an introductory course in which you will develop a basic understanding of the night sky, our position in the Solar System, the Milky Way and the Universe. We will use interactive software and apps to explore our solar system and others throughout the galaxy and look at potential habitable worlds. We will compare and contrast different types of stars and we will glimpse into the future of our star, the Sun. We will take a journey through the Milky Way and beyond and we’ll conclude with a brief discussion on the nature of the Universe and the gaps in our understanding that still need to be filled.
When: Sunday 12 May, 1 day
Time: 10:30 - 16:30
Location: City Lit, Covent Garden
Physics is the fundamental science upon which everything else depends on. In this course we will use basic physics concepts to understand the biological processes in living organisms such as how the nervous system works, how cells generate energy and how our anatomy helps us move around on Earth. We will also discuss the latest results and theories for certain biological processes that could be explained by quantum physics.
When: Sunday 23 June, 1 day
Time: 10:30-16:30
Location: City Lit, Covent Garden
A short introduction to the science of astrophysics which explores the physics of stars, galaxies, planets and black holes, as well as theoretical topics such as solar system formation. The course is taught by Radmila Topalovic, who holds a degree in Physics with Astrophysics and a PhD in Astrochemistry.
When: Sunday 7th July, 1 day
Time: 11:00-16:00
Location: City Lit, Covent Garden
The origins of life continue to elude us here on Earth but maybe we can gain insights into the rarity of life by looking at our planetary neighbours, their moons and the vast population of exoplanets throughout our galaxy, the Milky Way.
